The Alabama Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (ALRID) is a state level affiliate of  the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.  We are a national membership organization of professionals who provide sign language interpreting/transliterating for Deaf and Hearing persons.   ALRID was established in the late 1960's and  is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates for the increased quality, qualifications, and quantity of interpreters within the state of Alabama.

ALRID is governed by a group of skilled, knowledgeable, enthusiastic volunteers serving on the its Board of Directors.  These volunteers fulfill their responsibilities of leadership by conducting and participating in ongoing meetings, usually held once a quarter. Our Board consists of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, 3 members-at-large, a representative from the Alabama Association of the Deaf, and 9 local chapter presidents.

An organization is not successful without members.  To reach membership and better serve the needs of interpreters in a remote areas, ALRID has nine divisions known as local chapters through out Alabama.  Each local chapter is independently organized and managed by a local board of directors.  Located in Tuscaloosa, Huntsville,  Mobile, Talladega, Birmingham, Dothan,  The Shoals, Montgomery, and Jacksonville, the chapters strive to promote the practices of ALRID on a more personalized local level.

We are working for the individual interpreter and transliterator. We are not an interpreter agency, but we know where to find interpreters, the right interpreters to match the need.  We are not the interpreter police, but we know whom to call when something is not right.  We do not give out CEUs but we know where to go to earn them.  We want to be The Source in matters relating to interpreting in the State of Alabama.  Our chief desire is to see each and every interpreter become the best interpreter he or she can be and we will do whatever we can to aid in that process.

As our tag line states, "In Alabama, ALRID is the interpreter's Source for Success!"
