Become a Member

ALRID is a non-profit membership-driven professional organization. As of today, ALRID has 112 members and the numbers continually increase.  While there are no formal requirements for joining, most of our members hold professional interpreting/transliterating credentials from RID and/or NAD and are licensed to Interpret by the Alabama Licensure Board of Interpreters & Transliterators (ALBIT). Our membership also consists of not-yet-certified interpreters and transliterators who work in this fine state.  These members have a Permit level license from the ALBIT.

Membership Has It's Privileges

Anyone who shares ALRID's interests and objectives is welcome to join. Members share in a great number of benefits including...

  • a subscription to The ALRID News, the official publication of ALRID.  The ALRID News is a bi-monthly newsletter dedicated to the field of sign language interpreting and deaf culture relevant to the state of Alabama.
  • reduced registration fees at ALRID conferences, regional and local workshops, seminars, forums and symposia.
  • advocates working on the behalf of members for the advancement of the interpreting profession and heightening public awareness.
  • the ability to network with colleagues, learning from seasoned professionals and educating new comers.
  • leaders who are lobbying for key legislation in the Alabama State Legislature affecting the interpreting profession.
  • the right to vote and participate in the activities of ALRID (voting is limited to those holding dual membership in both ALRID & RID).
  • dues may be deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense to the extent permitted under IRS Code.

ALRID is always accepting new members. Membership dues are $25 a year. To join, you'll need to complete a Membership Application and mail it to the ALRID Secretary, Susan Gordon. The mailing address is printed on the application. This application requires Adobe Reader to open.

We encourage you to also join the "TERPINFO" listserv. This is a FREE listserv powered by Groups.Yahoo.com. The listserv, managed by fellow member, Charlene Crump, is a current calendar of events happening in and around the state of Alabama related to Interpreting and Deafness. You may join the free listserv by clicking here: Join TERPINFO
