Belinda Montgomery,  2002 Award Recipient

Belinda Montgomery was awarded the MLB Award in June 2002.  Here is the text of the nomination letter submitted to the Award Committee.

Belinda’s exceptional professional credentials speak for themselves, as well as her conduct and her ethics to be of the highest quality.  She has served ALRID as president and in many other capacities for over fifteen years.

One person wrote, “I would like to address the qualities within Belinda that I believe make her a worthy award recipient.  She has the ability to develop rapport quickly with a variety of individuals and groups.  Belinda’s corrective style is one that is balanced with positive feedback and with personal regard and respect for the individual.”

Belinda was recently notified that she was selected for Mentorship Training.  Only one interpreter was chosen from each RID Region.  Congratulations, Belinda!

Belinda is often called upon by new interpreters or signers (she teaches sign language classes too) to provide feedback or guidance.  They do not hesitate to call her when needed because of her helpful, caring manner and her style encourages confidence building.

Belinda was not only heavily involved in writing and the development of the Alabama’s Interpreter Licensure Bill, but she was influential in the completion and passage of the Law.  She was a valuable resource and advocate to the Alabama State House and Senate committees, providing clarification and revision explanations when the passage of the bill was in limbo.  With Belinda’s oversight and diligence the ALRID membership was kept informed about the bill’s progress.  This is further evidence of her personal commitment to interpreting and the credentialing of the profession.  She is a true Professional!!
