Cookie Davis (with her husband),     1994 Award Recipient

Cookie Davis is most deserving of the Mama Lou Bingham award. Cookie has been highly visible in the north Alabama community and is well known and respected for her knowledge and expertise.

A certified interpreter, Cookie has interpreted in many, many places. She has paved the way for acceptance of interpreters. She has been a long-time member and ALRID Board member. Cookie has taken the lead in many avenues for advocacy for the deaf and interpreting communities.

She has served as Regional Director of the AIDB Huntsville Regional Center for the past several years. During that time, she engaged in activities such as: conducting trainings, participating in several committees, helping Deaf consumers with job searches, message relay, non-therapeutic counseling. All of this is in addition to her administrative duties and work with the visually impaired community.

Cookie has been very instrumental in establishing closed-captioning of local news programming. She founded the Sign Painters, a signing musical group, which has been proactive in advocacy and deaf awareness.

Cookie Davis is the perfect candidate for the ALRID Mama Lou Bingham Award!
